In the world of operating systems the most noted system is Windows. Started by Bill Gates way back in the 1980s with the DOS operating system, the little guys at Microsoft had no idea how large their software would become. Now being the big guys on the block they are constantly under scrutiny. Although most people receive their operating system free with a new computer, Windows is far from free. With closed source programming, their is little room to customize your system, and use free software that is more readily available on Linux.
With the release of Vista, consumers have become more aware how Microsoft has “forced” their operating systems down our throat before the operating system is ready. Vista has been prone to freezing up, and is considered “Bloatware” because it’s simply too big! If you have a 50 gigabyte hard drive, expect the behemoth to take up 8 GB’s or more of that hard drive. That’s precious space lost that could be used to store music or photos.
So you are ready to make the move but are afraid that these other operating systems are too hard. Most people become scared when they think about Linux, an open source free operating system. What they don’t know is that there are many operating systems for Linux newbies that require little or no computer knowledge. You don’t have to be a computer guru to run Linux.
But, one should still be aware of some things before they just switch right over. So I have compiled a list of the easiest Linux operating systems that anyone can use without being a computer guru:
